Old school hip hop impregnated sexy new school R&B and baby Kokophonix was born!
Kokophonix is based in Toronto but its roots span much further. Niko Hook, the creator, bass player, beat maker, and producer is a half-Swedish-born-in-England-grew-up-in-Spain man. The musical flock includes Juno nominated rapper Phatt Al, vocalist Dana Jean Phoenix, guitarist Tristan Armstrong, and a slew of other guests. The album was mixed and mastered by Juno nominated sound engineer, Rick Salt.
Kokophonix’s latest single, The Edge, was aired on CBC’s Metro Morning program.
Amer Alkhatib (CBC, Communication Designer) called out Kokophonix on SYNTH (Songs You Need To Hear); “A throwback to '90s pop and a nod to disco, this dancey jam [The Edge] from Toronto’s Kokophonixcomes in advance of the producer’s debut album, which is expected this October. Despite a moody and modestly paced start, the track picks up with help from cleverly produced beats, rap verses by veteran PhattAl, and backing vocals by Dana Jean Phoenix. What is in Toronto’s water that’s making its hip-hop and R&B scene so damn good?”
